Maurice Arenas
Acoustic and Electric Guitar, Bass, Music Theory
Specializing in Jazz and Classical Guitar
A graduate of Peabody Conservatory of Music, Maurice studied jazz theory and improvisation from the Lennie Tristano school of thought while growing up in New York. He is formerly the Music Director at St. John's at Prospect Hall in Frederick, MD. While in New York he played in the orchestra pit on the off Broadway circuit as well as a studio musician. He has given seminars and concerts at many colleges and Universitites and played in the Lawrence Welk baritone Tom Netherton's band. Maurice found classical guitar at an early age a benefit to his career, in the fact that the discipline of classical guitar is one that demands great ability , interpretation and technique. In his early teens he gravitated toward the electric guitar, listening to the blues of BB King, Charlie Parker's bebop and Jimi Hendrix. Maurice is also a heavy believer in keeping what he calls "the magic of music" alive in his students by teaching music that students can relate to,
unlike others who resort to exercises and drills.
